1. After years of vacancy, Willow Road opened up in the former John Dory space on West 1oth Avenue. The bar program at this trendy gastropub is headed by renowned mixologist Greg Seider of The Summit Bar. Start your meal with a Cinnamon Gimlet and top it off with What's For Breakfast (aka the best tequila shots you'll ever have) before heading out in the nearby Meatpacking District.

2. Tribeca's Michelin Star restaurant Atera, opened a small bar down below: Atera Lounge. With only 12  seats at the bar and a reservation-only policy, this place  is guaranteed to impress a date. Head to this Tribeca hot  spot in January (... if you can get in) and order a Winter Walnut.

3. The Austrian team behind the East Village wine tavern Edi & The Wolf opened The Third Man on Avenue C. Expect unique twists on classics as you cozy into the plush leather banquettes or grab a stool along the interior brick walls.

4. This summer they brought you the roof top lounge, and now April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman have introduced a taqueria to the trendy Pod 39 Hotel in Murray Hill. The cocktail menu at  Salvation Taco is just as innovative as the food menu. Stick with the Mexican theme and order the Salvation Michelada or the Sandia Trio.

5.  The dimly lit Japanese Gastro-Lounge SakaMai is just what  the Lower East Side needed. Not only do they have an extensive  list of sakes, but their beverage program also focuses on  Japanese beers, whiskeys, and shochu. Go and choose your own  experience: head there for cocktails and appetizers at the  Japanese-Style standing bar, have a sake flight at the pour bar,  cozy up by the fireplace in the lounge, or dine there at a private table or at the communal table. SakaMai is ready to please anyones palate.

With this round up of openings, it looks like January will be a fun-filled month. Happy New Year!
